Last weekend we packed up ourselves and the pug for a much needed trip down to San Diego.

We started driving early.

Caesar enjoys the stops with grass the best.

We met my mom for a late lunch at Counterpoint in Golden Hill. Wine and cheese were in order.

As were pumpkin soup and a flatbread with pancetta, blue cheese, and fig. Mom had cioppino; Josh scarfed down a pesto chicken sandwich of some kind.

The weather was a bit odd on the drive down, but San Diego delivered it’s standard unbeatable conditions in time for the Mission Valley Craft Beer Festival the next day.

For those who haven’t been, it’s a few hours of unlimited beer and food tastings from some of the best places in the city. Plus live music. Top notch.

There was an awesome variety of all things meat. BBQ’d, smoked, braised, slathered in delicious sauces… I only wish my stomach had been big enough to taste them all.

West Coaster crew represented.

Geezer – Weezer cover band. Lol.

Drink mead – become Nicolas Cage.

Beer was discussed.

Safety Orange.

The next morning I tried to take Josh to Hash House (he’s never been)… 40 minute wait for 2 people. On a Monday. We were hungry, so we headed over to Cafe on Park.

Mango coconut (giant) pancake, eggs, potatoes, and bacon, oh my!

The next couple days were spent lounging with family, walking pugs, and getting growlers filled at West Coaster headquarters.

Cutest nephew in the world + chocolate cookie. We watched lots of butterfly driving a truck. Yeah yeah!

We escaped for breakfast at Cafe Madeline & some park adventuring before a busy day.

On the way home the next day, we made a pit stop just north of San Diego in Vista to visit my mom (and the chickens), and have brunch.
