Instructions
Combine the coarsely ground coffee and hot water in a French press or heat-safe container. Stir to saturate all grounds.
Let the coffee steep for 4 minutes. Set a timer—steeping longer can cause bitterness.
Press the plunger down if using a French press, or carefully strain the mixture through a coffee filter or fine mesh strainer into a clean container if using another vessel.
Fill two tall glasses generously with ice cubes.
Pour the hot brewed coffee over the ice in both glasses. The ice will chill and slightly dilute the coffee to perfect strength.
Customize as you like: stir in milk, cream, flavored syrup, or sweetener. Enjoy immediately while cold and refreshing!
Notes
Use cold brew (steeped for 12 hours then strained) for an even smoother, lower-acid version. Coffee can be stored (undiluted) in a closed container in the fridge up to 4 days. Freeze leftover coffee as ice cubes for stronger iced lattes later. Brew extra strong if adding lots of ice or milk. Get creative with flavored syrups and alt milks.
